Troubleshooting

Find your problem below. Each answer starts with the most likely cause.

Installing#

"The package could not be installed. The theme is missing the style.css stylesheet."#

You uploaded the whole ThemeForest download instead of the theme. Unzip the download and upload kurato.zip from inside it. See Install the theme.

Your server limits the size of uploads. Install the theme with FTP (see Install with FTP), or ask your host to raise upload_max_filesize and post_max_size to 64M.

A white screen, or "There has been a critical error on this website"#

  • Check your PHP version in Tools > Site Health > Info > Server. Kurato needs PHP 7.4 or later.
  • Deactivate other plugins one by one to find a conflict.
  • WordPress sends an email to the admin address with details. Send these details with your support request.

The demo import#

The import stops, or shows an error#

A server limit was reached. Go to Kurato > Demos, look for rows marked Low, and ask your host to raise them. See Check your server. Then run the import again.

Pages are empty after the import#

Elementor was not active during the import. Activate Elementor, move the empty pages to the trash, and import again.

The menu is missing#

Go to Appearance > Menus > Manage Locations and choose the menu for Primary and Footer. See Menus.

The pages have "-2" at the end of their addresses#

A demo was imported twice, or on top of another demo. Delete the duplicates, or start from a fresh site. See Importing a second demo.

Pages and projects#

Project pages say "not found" (404)#

  • Go to Settings > Permalinks and click Save Changes without changing anything. This rebuilds the addresses.
  • Check that no page uses the same address as the project archive. See The archive address.

A section shows "Nothing to show yet"#

The section has no content yet. Fill in its fields in the sidebar (block editor) or the panel (Elementor). Sections that list projects, posts, or products stay empty until the site has some.

A section in Elementor is not full width#

Kurato makes a section full width when you drop it on an empty part of the page. If you dropped it into a container you made yourself, select that container and set its Content Width to Full Width and its padding to 0.

Images look cropped wrong or blurry#

  • Images uploaded before you activated Kurato do not have Kurato's sizes yet. Use a plugin such as Regenerate Thumbnails to make them.
  • Upload larger images. See Image sizes.
  • For a project still, set the Focal point. See Project details.

The site#

Visitors see "coming soon" instead of the shop#

WooCommerce starts in "Coming soon" mode. See Open your shop.

My changes do not show#

A cache shows an older copy of the page. Clear the cache of your caching plugin or your host, then reload the page. In the Customizer, remember to click Publish.

The day and night button is missing#

Turn on Let visitors switch mode in Colors and mode.

The logo is wrong in day mode#

Add a dark version of your logo under Logo for day mode. See Logo and site icon.

The site loads slowly#

See Keep pages fast.

Removing Kurato Core#

Deactivating Kurato Core removes nothing. Your projects, their types and fields, your pages, and your images all stay. Without the plugin, the sections and projects are not shown, so keep it active while Kurato is your theme.

Deleting the plugin also keeps everything, unless you tick Also remove the settings and fonts this plugin saved on Kurato > Settings first. Then deleting it removes the plugin's two settings, its saved values, and the Google fonts it downloaded, and nothing else.

Starting over#

The cleanest way to start again is a fresh WordPress install. A reset plugin from the WordPress directory can also empty the database. Make a backup first.
