Building your site
The journal
Kurato calls the blog "the journal". Posts work as in any WordPress site. This page explains what the theme adds.
The journal page#
The journal is the page you set as Posts page in Settings > Reading. See Front page and journal.
- The first page opens with the newest post as a "lead note": a wide image, its excerpt, and a Read the note link. The lead note shows only when the blog sidebar is off.
- The other posts follow as rows, or as cards with an image, three across. Choose in Blog settings.
- The title and the excerpt of the journal page itself become the head of the page.
Category, tag, author, and date archives and search results use the same design.
Writing a post#
- Featured image. Shown wide under the title, cropped to 2.39:1, and on the cards at 16:9. Upload images at least 1920 pixels wide. You can turn the image under the title off in the Customizer.
- Excerpt. The short text in lists. Without one, WordPress takes the first 28 words. A hand-written excerpt also shows as the intro of the post.
- Sticky posts. A post marked Sticky is labeled "Featured" and comes first on page one.
- Post formats. Aside, gallery, image, quote, video, audio, and link. The format is named in the post's label. The layout is the same for all formats.
- Sections in posts. You can add any Kurato section to a post, as on a page.
Under each post#
In this order: the tags, the share links, the author box (off by default), the comments, and a full-height "Next scene" link with the next post's image. Turn each part on or off in Blog settings.
Comments#
Comments are threaded, and pingbacks are listed apart from them. Turn comments on or off for one post in the post sidebar, under Discussion, or for the whole site in Settings > Discussion. The demos have comments closed. Projects never have comments.
The blog sidebar#
The sidebar is off by default. To use it, choose a side in Blog settings, then add widgets to Blog sidebar in Appearance > Widgets.
