On going back

People ask why I photograph the same valley every October. The answer is that it is never the same valley. One year the fog sits in the trees for a week. The next year it never comes, and the birches turn gold in two days.

A place you visit once gives you a postcard. A place you visit for eleven years starts to give you its weather.

Teo Halvorsen, in the fir valley, 2023

Four ways to keep a photograph.

Pick one

Prints A signed print, made by hand

Every print is made in my studio on cotton rag or baryta, in an edition of 15 to 25. I sign and number each one in pencil.

The book Black Sand, forty-two plates

My first book, printed in four colors on uncoated paper and bound in linen. Signed copies come straight from the studio.

Licensing A photograph for your project

For a cover, a campaign, or a wall in a public building. Varde Agency handles the license and answers within two days.
