A winter project at the kitchen table: flowers from the garden and the dunes, dried for weeks and photographed in the light of one north window.
In December the sun does not rise here at all. So I brought the landscape indoors.
Every autumn I pick what is left in the garden and on the dunes behind the house: roses, poppy pods, sea holly, grass from the side of the road. They hang upside down in the hallway for a few weeks until they are dry.
Then they go on the kitchen table, next to the one window that faces north. The light from that window does not change much in winter, which is the point. I can work on one stem for a whole afternoon.
The series is still growing. New prints are added in spring.
“A dried flower holds still for as long as you need. After ten years of chasing light outside, that felt like a holiday.”
