How a job begins.
Date Any Monday, 10:00
The first call.
A studio of one · First draftPage 1.
Scene 1 INT. HARBOR WORKS, UNIT 4 - MORNING 1
A small studio. Two workstations hum under one desk. NOA CALDER (they/them) holds a paper notebook and a cold coffee. The phone lights up.
Noa
Studio. This is Noa.
Producer (V.O.)
(on speaker)
We open a festival in March. We need ninety seconds that people will remember.
Noa writes one word in the notebook: LIGHT.
Noa
Before we talk about shots, can I send you a strip of colors?
Producer (V.O.)
Colors? Not a storyboard?
Noa
(smiling)
The board comes second. If we agree on the colors, every meeting after this one is short.

Questions from the first call.
What producers ask before they book. Anything else, send it with your brief.
-
Q.01 Why a color script before a storyboard?
A.Color is the easiest thing to agree on and the hardest thing to change late. Once the strip is approved, the board and the render follow it.
-
Q.02 How often will I see progress?
A.Every Friday. You get frames from the real render, not a written update.
-
Q.03 Can the schedule be shorter?
A.Often, yes. A loop pack can fit in four weeks if the color script is approved on the first call.
-
Q.04 What do you need from us to start?
A.A short brief, your brand files, and the date it has to play. A music track helps for anything timed to sound.
