146 Paintings since 2021

Seascapes, nocturnes, and still lifes, painted in oil in an old net loft on the harbor. Originals, prints, and a few commissions each year.

I paint slowly, from life, and mostly in bad weather. The best days in the loft start with rain on the roof and a clean palette.

How I spend a painting day.

  1. 06:30

    Walk the harbor

Before breakfast I walk to the end of the quay and back. I look at the water and decide what to paint. Most days the weather decides for me.

  2. 09:00

    Paint while the light holds

The north window gives a steady light until about three. That is when the real work happens, with the phone in another room.

  3. 15:00

    Clean up and stop

Brushes in soap, palette scraped, canvas turned to the wall. I look at it again the next morning, with fresh eyes.

Collectors · 2023 to 2026
  • “The small storm painting hangs by our front door. On calm days it reminds us of winter, and on wild days it feels like company.”

    Ada Fenwick Collector · Wrenhaven
  • “We asked for our garden in June. She came back in October to see it again before she would start.”

Rafe and Dina Colby Commission, 2024 · Port Ellery
  • “I bought a print first, then saved for an original. Both hang in the same room, and I still look at the print most.”

    Sunniva Hale Collector · Fellside
