I asked for six weeks instead of two and slept in the car for most of them.<\/p>\n<p>The light in the desert is hard for about ten hours a day. The good part is short: the hour after sunrise and the half hour before dark. In between I read, slept in the shade, and drove to the next place.<\/p>\n<p>The salt flat was the last stop. A storm came in over the mountains and I had about five minutes before the rain.
