Your eyes adjust, the palette looks brighter than it is, and in the morning the painting is mud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">One hour of looking<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So for the Moon Studies I made a rule: one hour at the water, no sketch, no phone, no notes. It keeps the shape of the light, one or two dark shapes, and the color of the sky near the moon. It throws away everything else, and most of the time it is right.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Paint what you remember, and you paint what mattered.<\/p>\n<cite>An old teacher, said often<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Twelve full moons gave me four paintings I liked.
